Srđan Branković recently gave a talk for teenagers on “Physical Activity and Supplement Use in Adolescents”, focusing on the role of exercise, healthy development, and the growing popularity of supplements among young people.
The talk explored why regular physical activity is so important during adolescence. Activities such as running, cycling, jumping, and other forms of exercise support the development of strength, endurance, coordination, and motor skills, while also benefiting concentration, memory, and overall cognitive function.
Branković also discussed the human body’s natural need for movement and the broader role physical activity plays in maintaining energy, vitality, and long-term health. Exercise connects the brain, nervous system, muscles, and joints, making movement an important part of both physical and mental development.
A significant part of the discussion focused on supplement use among teenagers. Protein supplements, creatine, vitamins, and other products are increasingly popular, often driven by the desire to improve athletic performance, appearance, or energy levels. Branković addressed the question of when supplements may be appropriate and when they can become an unnecessary substitute for the basics.
The key message was that a balanced diet based on whole foods, regular physical activity, and adequate rest and recovery should always come first. Rather than relying on quick solutions, young people can benefit most from developing healthy habits that support their wellbeing in the long term.
The talk concluded with a simple principle: an active lifestyle should be the foundation. Adolescence is an important period for establishing habits that can contribute to health and wellbeing well into adulthood.
